History of the Church

The Alexander Nevsky Church in Debaltsevo was built in 1995 on the historic site where a stone church built in 1897 stood until the 1930s. Construction of the new standard-design stone church culminated in its ceremonial consecration in 2001. Since 2014, the church grounds were repeatedly subjected to artillery fire. In December 2016, a direct hit from a heavy shell destroyed the walls of the Sunday school and damaged the façade and domes.
